The Expressiones ArtVenture Program is an ongoing bilingual arts program for low-income and disadvantaged children, aged 5-17, and their families.

This after-school program encourages artistic expression and cultural enrichment.  The chil-dren are taught basic elements of art techniques, appreciation and expression. Through the arts children learn to better express themselves, think critically and develop self-confidence.

These successful and long running programs are offered free and are supported by grants and donations from “Friends of Expressiones.”

Latin artists from our Artist-in Residence Program participate in ArtVenture by working with the children during their New London residency.  This adds to the children’s cultural enrichment and appreciation. These artists are often viewed as role models by these children and offer a diverse cultural exchange.

Expressiones has been able to take these children on field trips to the Math Museum in New York City, the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme and Fire Fly Farms in North Stonington.  This summer our partnership with the Florence Griswold Museum will enable the children to travel to the Museum to learn to paint “en plein air” under the supervision of one of the museum’s educators.

Grants and generous donations have made it all possible. Our hope is that ArtVenture will continue to thrive as Expressiones grows.
