Expressiones was founded in 2001 by two South American immigrants to this country -- Guido Garaycochea, an internationally trained artist, and Jose Garaycochea-Ulloa, an arts administrator. They serve respectively as its Curator and Executive Director. Effective September 2009, Expressiones was granted Section 501(c)(3) not-for-profit status.

aspirations of the people of Southeastern Connecticut by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.
Expressiones wants to promote the Latin American Culture in all its manifestations by introducing the citizens of southeastern Connecticut to its music, art, and customs. The purpose of the Cultural Center as set forth in its articles of incorporation is exclusively educational in nature. * Expressiones Cultural Center Inc. is a non-for-profit organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and your donation is fully deductible as provided by law. Expressiones rely most heavily on the contributions from foundation grants, which are: Frank Loomis Palmer Foundation, Connecticut Office of the Arts, Puffins Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts, Community Foundation, Bodenwein Foundation, James & Mary Perpetual Trust, Griffis Foundation. Friends of Expressiones are the second largest source of support, which are: Sapphire Donor: Thames River Greenery, and Ivan & Naomi Otterness. Platinum donors: Helen Sandalls & Roger Beers, John & Karen Horn, and Anonymous donor. Golden Donors: Bruce Shipman, and Leon's Upholstery.
