Join us for music, exhibitions, and the opportunity to meet our new artists‑in‑residence from across Latin America throughout 2026, beginning with our first event on January 9, 2026, at 6:00 PM EST. At Expressiones, our mission has always been to uplift Latin American artists and bring their voices, creativity, and cultural perspectives to our local underserved communities. As part of this commitment, we also seek to deepen the dialogue around themes that shape our shared lives—migration being one of the most defining and urgent conversations in our country today. This year, we are expanding that dialogue by introducing a different perspective on migration—one not rooted in the Latin American experience, but equally capable of enriching our collective understanding of who we are. By doing so, we hope to broaden the lens through which we see one another and continue building bridges of understanding between people. American Stories brings together photographs by Mattias Lundblad created over many years and across varied contexts, drawing from his work as a photojournalist as well as from more personal documentary projects. Though the subjects differ, the images are united by a central idea: that migration, in all its forms, is foundational to the experience of the United States—a nation continually negotiating its own identity. Migration appears here both literally and metaphorically. The exhibition includes photographs from the U.S.–Mexico border, where people arrive carrying hope, uncertainty, and determination, alongside portraits of writers, musicians, and cultural figures who shape the ways America understands itself. These images are presented together with scenes of political struggle, social tension, everyday life, and the natural beauty found across the country. As an immigrant from Sweden, Lundblad approaches these stories as both participant and observer. Photography allows him to engage deeply with American communities while maintaining the distance needed to see them with clarity. Rather than offering a single narrative, American Stories presents a constellation of encounters—public and intimate—that portray America not as a finished idea, but as an ongoing process shaped by those who arrive, stay, resist, create, and imagine themselves into it. Through this exhibition, Expressiones continues its commitment to fostering cultural understanding, amplifying diverse migrant experiences, and creating spaces where art helps us reflect on who we are—and who we are becoming—together.
