Expressiones Cultural Center is proud to announce the culmination of its first international artist-in-residence exchange with the debut of David Schulz’s solo exhibition in Guadalajara, Mexico. A resident of Stonington, Connecticut, and a multidisciplinary artist originally from New York City, Schulz has spent the past four weeks immersed in the vibrant cultural landscape of Guadalajara as the inaugural artist-in-residence (AIR) sent by Expressiones. This milestone residency was made possible through the generous support of José Luis Malo, Verónica Ximenez, and Ikeri Gallery, who share our vision of fostering deeper understanding and creative dialogue between Anglo and Spanish-speaking communities. David Schulz’s exhibition, titled "RELOTIA... LETARIO... LOTERÍA", is a poetic and visual exploration of language, photography, and cultural symbolism. Inspired by the traditional Mexican game Lotería, Schulz reimagines its iconic imagery through anagrams, tongue twisters, and visual metaphors that challenge the boundaries between grammar and poetry. Through his lens, Schulz invites us to reflect on how language shapes our perception of the world. Each photograph becomes a visual symbol—a translation of words into images that transform the everyday into something lyrical and profound. This exhibition is not just a celebration of artistic achievement, but a testament to the power of cultural exchange and the bridges that art can build.
