La Mariss: Poetics of Repair An Exhibition by Ixel Orozco Peregrina La Mariss: Poetics of Repair presents the work of Guadalajara-based multidisciplinary artist Ixel Orozco Peregrina, created during her Artist-in-Residence program at Expressiones Cultural Center. Rooted in the intersections of art, ecology, craftsmanship, and collective memory, the exhibition explores how materials carry stories, histories, and connections to place. At the heart of the exhibition is La Mariss, a monumental puppet conceived and constructed in New London from reclaimed and natural materials. Blurring the boundaries between sculpture, performance, and community ritual, La Mariss embodies Orozco's ongoing exploration of transformation, environmental awareness, and the power of collective creation. Alongside La Mariss, visitors will encounter a selection of works developed during Orozco's residency that reflect on landscape, memory, and the poetic potential of everyday materials. Drawing from both contemporary artistic practice and traditional knowledge, the exhibition invites audiences to consider repair not only as a physical act, but as a way of reconnecting with communities, ecosystems, and shared cultural traditions. Through sculpture, installation, object-making, and puppetry, La Mariss: Poetics of Repair celebrates imagination, resilience, and the beauty that can emerge when discarded materials are given new life.
